Welcome to Fatnick Industries

After 12 years and a number of theme updates, I’ve decided to completely change this site – Right down to the domain name. This blog will continue to be my blogging platform and all existing Mechafatnick.co.uk links will continue to work for anyone looking for any of my old soundchip/game history related articles on Google, but going forward my online home will be fatnickindustries.com. After all, all of my music is currently put out via the FatNicK Industries name, so to be honest it just feels like a better fit for the games/music I intend to release the second I can pull myself away from playing retro games based on Lupin III and actually get some productive stuff done.

So then, Farewell Mechafatnick.co.uk. This is how you changed over the years:

Now, in with the new! Though WordPress had worked well enough over the years, I wanted to take a stab at creating my own system from scratch – something that would work more like a web app than a traditional website. I was tempted to do the rational thing and use this as an excuse to learn a framework like React or angular, but I’d seen some sites that had done some interesting things with CSS pseudo elements so I wanted to see how far I could push things just using vanilla HTML, CSS and Javascript.

The result is the new FatNicK Industries: a responsive-single page site designed to make your state of the art computer or mobile look like it’s running an OS on an old CRT monitor: the scan line effect is generated via a gradient placed on a before element covering the entire screen, while the flickering is caused by a transparent, white rectangle which sits over the entire monitor and switches between being slightly more and slightly less opaque (this flickering can be switched off from the cookie options page because i didn’t want to give anyone a migraine or a seizure.) The new site contains all of my game experiments, all of my music releases and a viewer page for this blog as well. In the long run i want to make all of the games playable on mobile too – even the Megadrive roms.

Thanks for again for visiting my site and feel free to shout out via the contact page or social media if you feel anything’s amiss.

Mechafatnick.co.uk is dead…long live Fatnickindustries.com!
