A couple of months ago a fellow called Egoitz Campo reached out to tell me he was trying to organise a Sega Master system tournament in the Basque Country, and ask whether I would be interested in recieving a report of the event. Naturally I replied “yes of course!” so here we are – This is Egoitz’ report from the tournament which was held on the 6th of April. II.Basque<\/strong> Country Sega Master <\/strong>System<\/strong> <\/strong>Championship<\/strong> 2024<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u200bLast Tuesday, April 6, Euskal-Retro organized the I. Basque Country championship for the Sega Master System, a great console from the 80s. Seven players met at the “Cafe Berria” in Santuxu (Bilbao-Basque Country). We went up to the second floor and, after turning on the television, we first played the American retro computer TRS-80 before moving on to the Master System.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u200bWe played a total of three games: Enduro Racer, Space Harrier and Transbot. Our original idea was to play Fantasy Zone but since it was difficult to get it to work we decided to play Transbot, which has a similar theme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u200bEnduro<\/strong>\u00a0Racer<\/strong> is\u00a0a motocross\u00a0game,\u00a0very\u00a0colorful\u00a0and\u00a0interesting.\u00a0The\u00a0objective\u00a0is\u00a0to\u00a0take\u00a0the\u00a0
motocross\u00a0bike\u00a0as\u00a0fast\u00a0as\u00a0possible,\u00a0jumping\u00a0off\u00a0ramps\u00a0and\u00a0avoiding\u00a0crashing\u00a0into\u00a0cars\u00a0and other obstacles.\u00a0We\u00a0played\u00a0the\u00a0first\u00a0scene\u00a0and\u00a0the\u00a0player who completed it in\u00a0thee shortest\u00a0time won.\u00a0

Then\u00a0we\u00a0played\u00a0the\u00a0mythical\u00a0game,\u00a0Space\u00a0Harrier<\/strong>.\u00a0Known\u00a0to\u00a0everyone\u00a0from\u00a0the\u00a0Amiga 500\u00a0or\u00a0the\u00a0arcades.\u00a0The\u00a0one\u00a0who\u00a0advanced\u00a0 the furthest\u00a0won.\u00a0We all had\u00a0pretty bad\u00a0scores, so\u00a0we\u00a0should probably practice\u00a0more.\u00a0Finally, as I\u00a0said\u00a0before,\u00a0we\u00a0wanted\u00a0to\u00a0
play\u00a0Fantasy\u00a0Zone<\/strong>\u00a0but\u00a0since\u00a0it was\u00a0difficult\u00a0to get it to\u00a0work\u00a0(I\u00a0had\u00a0to\u00a0clean\u00a0it\u00a0with\u00a0alcohol)\u00a0we\u00a0decided\u00a0
to\u00a0play\u00a0Transbot<\/strong> instead – a similar\u00a0shooting\u00a0game\u00a0in a\u00a0futuristic\u00a0 environment.\u00a0We\u00a0played\u00a0until\u00a0
two\u00a0lives\u00a0were lost,\u00a0with the\u00a0one\u00a0who had\u00a0 the\u00a0most\u00a0points at the end\u00a0being\u00a0the\u00a0winner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u200bThe tournament was very competitive and interesting. In the end, the best player was Gorka Perez, a very enthusiastic player of retro systems. Egoitz and Andoni also played very well. We intend to organize the II. Basque Counry Master System Championship in October this year. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
